The National Cherry Blossom Festival’s Opening Ceremony is a tribute to the friendship that has existed between Japan and the United States for many years. It's an annual celebration of the gift of trees sent from Tokyo to Washington DC in 1912. This one-time performance features acclaimed artists from both Japan and the United States.
Kaoru Watanabe, an instrumentalist and composer based in New York, will combine his unique skill to blend Japanese culture and disparate styles into a captivating performance of music.
Jo Kanamori is a choreographer and dancer, who is the general artistic director at Noism Company Niigata. He will use his vast overseas experience to choreograph and direct a piece which will be performed during the Opening Ceremony by dancers of The Washington Ballet Company, a DC-based company.
Naotaro will perform at the Warner Theatre with his distinctive vocalization, which has been praised across generations. He is fresh from a nationwide tour in Japan that included 100 different venues, and was celebrating his 20th year as a performer.
